Tree Roots in Drains? No Problem!

Tree roots in drains are one of the biggest cause of blockages in the UK. If you have a slight crack or opening in your drainage system then roots will find it. Roots love drains. Once a root enters and widens these cracks, the environment is perfect for rapid growth around and inside the pipe. Before too long it can start to create significant damage for a drainage system.

We can cut most roots out of the drain using our root cutting equipment in conjunction with our high pressure water jetter carried on board our well-equipped vans. The root cutting equipment cuts the roots using very high pressure water with a rotating nozzle acting as a cutting tool. These will clear 99% of roots within the pipe in a foul drain.

Root cutting alongside a patch liner or liner over the root ingress point will eliminate blockages and prevent further root growth inside the pipe for the foreseeable future.

Are You Insured For Tree Root Damage To Your Drains?

You should be insured for tree root damage, most major insurance providers will cover this, although, some policies may not include this cover. Tree Root Ingress to drains has always been an insurable risk, however, following the downturn in the economy some insurance companies have been found to try and knock a few tree root related drainage claims back.

We have the expertise needed to completely clear your drains and ensure they don't trouble you again in the future.

Preventive Steps to Avoid Tree Roots In Drains

The risks associated with tree root ingress are unpleasant and costly, which is why it makes sense to take steps to avoid the problem where possible. The Jet2clear team would suggest:

Plan Your Planting. When planting trees with vigorous root growth, keep them well away from your drainage systems. We would recommend particular care when planting poplar, maple, willow, plane, oaks or beeches.

Invest in a CCTV Drain Survey. Many of our clients are managing risks caused by a legacy planting in their garden. This is perfectly manageable so long as there’s regular maintenance in place. A CCTV survey will traverse your pipework and send back a real-time report on the state of your pipes.

Regular Water Jetting. High pressure water jetting will keep pipe systems clear of silt, and flush out water pooling. This eradicates some of the conditions that can prove attractive to nearby roots.
